Solar Energy for Your RV - 4 Reasons Why It Might Be a Good Idea

An RV (recreational vehicle) can be a good way to de-stress and "get away from it all." Here are 4 ways that solar energy can make your RVing experience even more enjoyable.

#1 - Solar energy gives you more parking options.
If you never park anywhere but at an RV park or campground with electrical hookups then you probably don't need to invest in solar. But what if you're taking a long trip and have to spend the night in a parking lot? Or you want to go somewhere more isolated? Parking lots and "the middle of nowhere" don't usually have electrical hookups.

If you have a "house battery" that's fully charged (usually from running the vehicle engine) you may be able to get by with that - if you avoid using too many electrical "gadgets." But it doesn't take much to drain a battery. Solar panels can keep the house battery charged even when you're nowhere near a plug and not running the engine. If you have solar you won't have to worry about running out of electricity - or spend a lot of time at the end of the day when everyone's tired driving around trying to find a place with plugins.

#2 - Solar energy is cleaner than other power sources.
There is of course another way to have electricity when the RV's not plugged in - a generator. But generators have some disadvantages. For one thing, they all use some kind of fossil fuel, which when burned produces fumes that are not only nasty to breathe but also polluting. A solar panel, on the other hand, gets all its "fuel" from the sun. It doesn't make any fumes - which makes it a cleaner choice for RV power than a generator.

#3 - Solar power is quieter than other power sources.
If you've never been near a generator when it's running you probably haven't noticed this, but generators are LOUD (those capitals are deliberate). Yes, some are quieter than others. But none are going to be absolutely silent, because they're engines, and engines have moving parts that make noise. Maybe a generator won't bother you, especially if there's a thick wall between it and your living space in the RV. But if there are other people nearby there's a good chance it will bother them - and that combined with the fumes is why a lot of places don't allow generators. Which means that even if you have one you may not be able to use it.

Solar panels, on the other hand, are not engines - they don't have any moving parts to make noise. Which means they are silent.

#4 - Solar power is cheaper than other power sources.
If you need "portable power" for your RV your two main choices are solar and a generator. Generators come in different sizes and the prices vary by size, but they are probably cheaper to buy than a solar panel setup. However - generators don't have just an upfront cost. In order to keep them running you have to "feed" them with whatever fuel they use - gasoline, diesel, propane, or maybe natural gas. So generators have a regular cost as well - for the fuel. And the more you use them, the more fuel you have to buy and the more it costs to keep them going. And that's not counting the regular maintenance they need to keep everything running smoothly.

Solar panel systems can have a fairly steep upfront cost (depending on their size and complexity). But once they're up and running that cost will go way down. There's no fuel to buy for them and because they have no moving parts they don't need much maintenance. In fact, most of the care of a solar panel consists of keeping the panel surface clean, and possibly - because RVs are mobile - making sure it doesn't come in contact with anything that could damage it. If those two needs are met then a solar setup can last for a very long time - probably a lot longer than a generator, and maybe even longer than the RV! (in which case you move the setup to your new RV)

Solar energy isn't the right choice for everyone. But if you need a way to have power when your RV isn't plugged in and you don't mind spending a little more upfront - and saving a lot later - then solar may be worth a look.

Why RV Awnings Are a Great Addition to Every RV Trip

All RV enthusiasts are pretty much alike. They enjoy traveling America's highways and back roads... stopping at RV parks everywhere... then sitting outdoors and relaxing with other RV travelers. Perhaps that describes you. If it does:

Congratulations. It certainly sounds like a great lifestyle... a wonderful way to see and enjoy America, to experience the incredible sights and the people that make this country special.

There are probably countless millions of Americans who envy you and wish that they could travel the same roads as you. Perhaps their day will come. Meantime, there is a way for you to further enrich and enjoy your RV traveling experience. It is this...

Add an awning to your RV so that each time you stop for a few days at a RV park, you will enjoy your time outdoors much more than you do now. Why... because you'll sit in cool shade and not under the broiling, hot sun.

Now, you may think that an awning is too expensive and, as a result, is an overhead item you need to avoid. In truth, there are many types of RV awnings and most of them are surprising affordable. Here's a brief rundown...

· Fixed Awnings are made of durable, long-lasting cloth (as are virtually all other types of RV awnings) and attach permanently above your RV's windows and doors. Interestingly, this type of RV awning is relatively unpopular because of the real risk that it may dislodge and fall off your RV while you're driving.

· Slide out Awnings are a more popular variation than the fixed awning because this type of awning can be stored - safely - under your roof and pulled out when needed. Modestly-priced, it "rolls out" automatically and retracts just as easily.

· Patio Awnings are similar to what you might use in the backyard of your permanent home. You can set up this type of awning when your RV is stationary by attaching it to your door or window.

· Roller Awnings are fully automatic - just press a button - and very easy-to-use. They roll out of the storage space you've provided and set up automatically to provide you with cooling and comforting shade.

Clearly, RV awnings offer you, the RV owner a very wise and budget-friendly way to enjoy your RV when you stop at RV parks anywhere in America. If you don't currently have a RV awning, it may be sensible to consider acquiring one.

If you're planning a trip or vacation, it may be wise to access online RV websites today.

How to Set Up Leveling Jacks To Stabilize Your RV

The sheer joy of RV travel - the freedom and adventure that comes with exploring America's back roads and small towns - is why so many people rent or own RVs, trailers and campers. There is no other experience that measures up to it - none.

And yet, RV travel can become difficult if you fail to prepare for everything you will encounter when you "hit the road." Consider, for example, the fact that the terrain where you will park your RV in a trailer park or campsite is unlikely to be perfectly flat.

You have to prepare for that so that when you park your RV for the night, it will be perfectly level... and you will be completely comfortable.

The best way to prepare is to equip your RV with a leveling jack or stabilizer system. There are many different kinds available, most are modestly-priced and all are surprisingly simple to install. Here are just a few of the best available systems...

· Hydraulic Jack System is generally factory-installed and comes with easy-to-follow instructions. Importantly, you don't have to be skilled with your hands to get it operational and keep your RV from being lopsided.

· Scissor Jacks and Telescoping Jacks are generally electrically-powered and best-suited for use in colder weather. They are compact and easy-to-store in your RV (an important consideration) and they are easy to install, as well.

· Tripod Jacks are also easy to store - very portable - and work wonders for you on terrain that is uneven. As for price... consider them affordable.

There are other systems you can consider, as well, including the Kick-Down Jack System which operates hydraulically and is easy-to-store... a variety of quality Stabilizer Systems... and many others, too.

So... how do you choose the one that is best for you? Visit the Internet and spend some time researching the various systems available. You're sure to find a Leveling Jack System that meets your needs perfectly... and fits your budget, as well.

RV Winter Weather Storage Covers

So you just went out on the proverbial limb and invested in a new or "new to you" recreational vehicle. In this time of economic uncertainty I say GOOD FOR YOU! If you can afford to take the plunge, more power to you.

Usually the first step after the purchase is to make sure everything works on the coach, then go for a nice extended drive, hopefully over night at least. After a few more of these trips you should know your new toy pretty well.

OK, now the season's over and your all camped out for the year (boy, that didn't take long, I hope it was fun). What do we do with this thing now to keep it clean and dry over the winter? Maybe you're one of the lucky ones with warm, dry inside storage. That seems to be a pretty small percentage of the population so if you're reading this I"m guessing you aren't that lucky.

You can always rent an enclosed RV storage facility. If that's in the budget GREAT. There's probably no need for you to read any further. The prices for that luxury in most areas of the US will run from around $150 to as much as $500 per month. There is a less costly alternative.

RV storage covers can do the job for as little as $5 to $15 per month, amortized out over an average lifespan of 36 months. There are inexpensive units available that will fit a variety of different RVs, all the way from 8' slide in truck campers up to 40+ foot long luxury motor homes.

Some of the nicer, higher quality covers come in contoured to fit configurations. This type cover can usually be installed or removed by one person in under a half hour, even on larger Class A motor homes. Designer style graphics and color schemes make these esthetically pleasing so you don't have to look at something resembling a big blue plastic tarp in your driveway.

Do you need access to the inside of your pride and joy when it's stored? Most of the mid priced to upper end units these days have zippered doors to allow you entry in just a few seconds. No need to spend half a day uncovering, then re-doing the whole plastic cover mess for just a few minutes access.

When it's all said and done, a high quality storage cover is a pretty good investment to protect your pretty expensive investment.

Truck Camper Hauling Made Safer and Easier

Did you just purchase a new or used slide in truck camper? Or maybe you're in the market but aren't sure how much your truck can haul.

Maybe it's just the opposite. Like many of us, the camper might already be in the driveway and you're ready to move up to a newer tow vehicle.

After my last camper purchase I discovered that my old 3/4 ton Ford with a 460 cubic inch gas motor just wasn't up to the task. Next stop, the local dealer for a much needed truck upgrade. Lucky me!

Is a new truck in your budget right now? If so that's great. If not there are some things you might be able to do with your existing vehicle to make it a little more "camper worthy". But don't forget, you can never change the factory rating for your truck. You can only make it better able to do the job it was built for.

But don't be surprised if even a new truck needs some help. I spent a few hundred bucks to get my diesel powered dual wheel pickup to a point I feel comfortable with. Then a few hundred more to make it ready to tow the trailers I usually take along.

So now what's the next step?

One of the first things I recommend is some homework and simple math to determine what your dream camper really weighs in at. NOT what the data plate says it weighs, but an actual scale reading. Yes, I realize that might not be an easy task, especially if your don't have the camper in your possession yet.

But, my own personal experience tells me the manufacturers and dealers "underestimate" the real weight of their campers. Sometimes by a great deal! If you really want to be safe and legal don't take anybody's word, do the homework.

One place to look for this information is on the internet RV forums. You might need to join a couple and ask what the weight might be for the camper you're looking at. Be specific here. You need to know the total loaded weight with water, propane and as much gear as you would normally take along on an average trip.

Look for more than one opinion. Most people will assume they know the answer but have they actually weighed their unit? Probably not. I have weighed two of my campers on Federal DOT truck scales (don't ask me how) and they were both a few hundred pounds over the manufacturer's stated weight.

Be realistic too. Your camper will probably never get any lighter. Most people tend to accumulate more amenities and the RV just keeps getting heavier.

Trucks, Capacity Ratings and Power Train Combos

Some basic rules apply here if you're shopping (sounds like you bought that new camper, eh?) for a new hauler. You already know the real weight of your new slide in. Make sure the truck has a cargo capacity at least equal to that number. Brakes, suspension, engine and axles are all sized to work within this rating.

If you plan to tow a trailer take that weight into consideration also. The trailer tongue (hitch) weight should NOT put the truck over it's rated axle capacities for front and rear as well as combined. Your truck will also have a Gross Combined Weight Rating, which is the total weight of truck, all cargo and all towed vehicles.

Engine & Transmission recommendations are really the subject of another article and mostly a matter of personal preference. My choice is a 6 cylinder diesel motor with a 6 speed transmission. This gives me a great compromise between power, fuel mileage and driveability. I also like the ability to use an exhaust brake with the diesel to help with the stopping, especially when there is no trailer behind.

Dancin' Down The Highway?

Does your truck and camper combination "rock and roll" as you corner or when big rigs pass? This is very common and more pronounced with the newer campers that can be very tall and top heavy. My new camper, with a raised floor and plenty of head room, is a good foot higher than the 2003 camper I previously owned, which was by no means a low-rider. Also, many of today's 4x4 trucks are a few inches higher than the older trucks.

Combine this with the longer rear springs installed on most of the newer trucks and your camper can really sway in the breeze. Even dual rear wheel pickups are not immune. The truck body rolls from side to side over the axle housing so the extra set of rear tires does not entirely fix the problem. What to do?

There are a number of possible remedies. Almost all trucks can benefit from rear air helper springs. If you're lucky enough to have a truck that accepts air bags mounted outside of the truck frame rails, they can substantially reduce the body roll as well as help carry the weight of the camper. Inboard mounted air springs will be some help with the body roll but their main job will be to carry some of the weight.

Air springs can also help to level a camper that's heavier on one side. That's a common situation these days with large refrigerators, generators and slide-outs. My personal camper has all three on the passenger side so it really leans over. By running about 20 PSI more on that side the camper levels out.

Does your truck have rear 'contact overload" springs? Most 1 ton trucks do have these as well as many of the new HD 3/4 ton trucks. These are the short, factory overload springs that only make contact when the truck is heavily loaded. Since they are short and stiff, if you put them to work sooner they really make a difference.

You also need to take a look at the factory installed rear anti sway bar. Is it as large as some of the aftermarket bars available? Probably not. Or is it even there? When I brought my new 3500 heavy duty dually pickup home I discovered it came WITHOUT a factory rear bar. Turns out the manufacturer didn't offer one on that truck!

The last thing I'll mention here is shock absorbers. Even though the truck manufacturers these days install much better shocks than they did in the "good old days" there's a lot of room for improvement when you add a 3000-5000 lb camper.

Do some homework on aftermarket shocks. My personal recommendation would be a mono-tube shock. These have a larger surface area on the piston which really helps to control the hydraulic fluid movement. That's important in helping stop the motion created by that much weight. These are available at very reasonable prices from RV dealers and online shock retailers.

I don't believe off-road shocks are the best choice in this application unless you actually some off road driving once you arrive at your destination, or possibly getting there. Most of us stay pretty much on the pavement and in this situation it's best to stick with the shocks designed for the job.

So here's the short and sweet of it. A properly paired, and prepared, truck and camper will be safer and, hopefully, legal to drive down the road. It should get you there, and back, in comfort and safety.

One last little safety tip. With all the talk about high trucks and tall campers in mind, don't forget to check the overall height of your setup. Many can be in excess of 12-1/2 feet above the ground. Many overpasses are lower than this and you can imagine the carnage if you aren't prepared!

Damaged Caravans Are No Fun to Drive When Your Family Is Along for the Ride

It doesn't matter whether a caravan is your permanent home or simply a home away from home. Either way, you need to make sure that it is given the utmost care. People who fail to do safety inspections will wind up with damaged caravans in the process. In the case of a touring caravan, there are many instances where damage can occur while driving around the country.

If you want protection in the event of unforeseen circumstances, get insurance from a caravan repairs facility offering this. A lot of reputable firms engaging in this kind of business will have the means to process your insurance claims. Vandalism, fire, and weather damage are the common causes of damage to this kind of vehicle.

If you live inside a caravan, whether at a trailer park or on your own property, it is considered a static caravan. There is an insurance policy for this as well. It will cover the surrounding areas which add to your comfort of living. Included in this type of coverage are your patio, front door steps, awnings, and fencing.

When you search for this particular insurance classification, check to see that these items are clearly stated, so you'll know what is covered. Before approaching a caravan repairs business, find out how much reimbursement each item gets and what specific damages are covered. The amount you receive should cover repairs to damaged caravans and replace any wrecked property.

Touring caravans also need insurance. There are a few good reasons for this. When not in use, an idle touring caravan can be damaged by inclement weather, unruly vandals, or wild animals. While travelling around in it, you might get into an accident and hurt someone in the process. This is when limited liability insurance can really save you from a possible huge payout.

A caravan could also be stolen, in which case loss of property coverage will be needed. If you want to bring down your insurance coverage costs, there are a few things you can do. The first thing is to install a burglar alarm to scare would-be thieves. Next, make sure to park in a secure location. Finally, adding a tracking device and axle lock will help bring down your insurance premium cost.
One thing people fail to ask a company engaging in caravan repairs is whether personal belongings are covered. To save you the trouble of finding out, know that most of them do not. In this case, your best option would be to make sure your household insurance covers whatever expensive items you bring along on your travels.

These include electronic equipment such as a TV, computer, laptop, CD, camera, and DVD player. Before starting your vacation, come up with a list of all valuable items you plan on taking, including how much they are worth. In case anything gets stolen, you have serial numbers and photographs of the items in question.

For holiday makers, driving around in damaged caravans is no way to start a vacation. To ensure everyone's happiness, visit a caravan repair shop and get your vehicle assessed for potential damages and insurance coverage which shields you from future mishaps.

Oberto Keneth knows how dangerous it can be driving damaged caravans and therefore suggests visiting a reputable caravan repairs shop before beginning your trip. http://www.caravanrepairshop.com.au/

Buying a VW Camper Van

Long seen as a vehicle for hippies, VW Camper Vans have become an iconic vehicle over the last few years amongst many groups. These include not only surfers but also 40 something's with a family looking for a great way to get out and explore the countryside whilst maintaining a level of comfort above the use of a tent.

The popularity explosion has led to the inevitable rise in prices and vehicles of 40 years old or more are changing hands for more than £25,000.

It is possible for the enthusiast to pick up certain models relatively cheaply and then restore them to their former glory but with the rarer models, even rusting hulks are being sold on eBay for thousands.

There is also a new option in the mix. VW Camper vans are still made in Brazil. These come with all mod cons such as a modern engine and running gear but look very much the same as the original bay windowed model. The main difference being the engine is no longer the original air cooled designed and consequently requires a radiator at the front of the vehicle. This has led to the only significant exterior design modification, which is a bulging grill at the front to allow air flow and room for the radiator. These models too are expensive and start around £25,000 depending on which options you choose.

If you are thinking of buying an original then it is a good idea to get lots of advice. There is a wealth of information on the Internet and many dedicated clubs and societies that are only too willing to pass on their knowledge.

Whatever model you buy, assuming it is an original, one of the biggest enemies is rust. Even the newest of the original models will be over 30 years old and if it has been used in the UK rust will be an issue. This is one reason why many are being imported from dry places such as Australia or California.

VW Camper Vans are relatively easy to work on, the engine can be removed in a very short space of time for instance, but replacing rusty panels and welding new ones in will be time consuming and expensive. Therefore, it is a good idea to check the vehicle very careful, especially underneath and under the carpets and interior.

If in doubt try and take someone along that has owned one before, when viewing the vehicle. Two pairs of eyes are always better than one.

Some Tips To Choosing The Right RV Windows

Recreational vehicles, or RVs, being long distance and sleep-in vehicles, need to have the appropriate RV windows. The windows should fit in and match the size and measurements of the window opening. They should also be safe, protective and able to shield the occupants of the RV from strong wind during travel, as well as the sounds from outside. Below are some tips and considerations you may want to look in to when deciding on the windows to have for your RV.

Start by finding out what type of windows were supplied with the vehicle by the manufacturer. This information will help you confirm the actual measurements of your window. However, you can physically measure this. A replacement window should fit exactly in the window opening in terms of height, width and breadth.

Using insulated windows offers a better option than using just the standard windows. On top of offering better interior quality of your RV, they also offer better shielding from wind and weather damage. This helps to maintain comfortable and regulated interior temperatures and air conditioning. They also help reduce noise from the outside.

You may also opt for the tinted windows, or to simply tint your existing windows. Although this may be an extra cost, the tinting helps reduce glare and the amount of heat and light coming in to the RV interior. This helps to protect passengers and upholstery from damage by the UV rays. Tinting also increases privacy, and depending on the privacy levels needed, you can have a darker tint. Just make sure to leave enough transparency to be able to enjoy the scenery as you travel.

The windows of choice should be firm, strong and durable, being able to withstand extreme weather. They should be easy to clean and well sealed. This makes them good at preventing leaks, which may result to mildew - which can be a health hazard. The windows should be easy to open (if this was your design choice), with a good locking system.

Together with your windows should come curtains. These increase the privacy of your interior from external prowling eyes. They also add to the interior design and decor of the RV. The RV window curtains should be made of heavy material that is hard to see through. They should also be big enough to cover the entire window. Should they have tie backs, then this is a plus. The curtains should be of bright colors and vivid patterns to add to the visual effects. You may also choose window blinds in the place of curtains. These function in the same way as curtains. There are different types of blinds, with a variety of styles and color. When choosing blinds for your RV, make sure to match them with your interior decor.

In a summary, choice of windows for your RV should be determined by your taste, safety requirements, required protection, and ease of use and cleaning. They should be well fitting, light for the vehicle, big enough to let in enough light, and easy to adorn with curtains or blinds. Your choice RV windows greatly influences the amount of fun you will have on your road trips.

Some Tips On Choosing The Right RV Entry Doors

The entrance to any place frequented by humans is supposed to be very secure and organized. It should offer the security and assurance to the person entering the particular building or place that once inside, he/she will not have any hiccups either in getting out or his/her privacy being compromised. In other words, the entrance should be well engineered to make sure that it serves it's purposes to the level best. It should not be prone to activities that are related to either adverse weather effects, man inhibited factors like theft and burglary and any other calamities that may be as a result of either nature or man made.

RV Entry Doors are supposed to work exactly like the other doors in buildings. Their only difference is that they serve a moving house. They are by all means supposed to own the attractive factors and attributes that normal doors have. They should be burglar proof and weather resistant to be able to serve their uses efficiently. The RV being an outdoor moving house can travel t any time of the day any time of the year. It is prone to a lot of adverse weather effects which increase the need for it's doors to be strong. It is also prone to thieves and thugs therefore calling for the need of it having doors that least hard to break in or tamper with.

All RV owners should choose RV Entry Doors that are engineered to suit their RV's uses. The doors should be engineered by precision and made of top quality materials that are solid and durable. In most cases, these doors are made from laminated core which is vacuum bonded with polyurethane adhesive. These doors have windows with them which makes them give the RV access to light. However, there are still doors that are made without having the windows.

All RV Entry Doors with windows have a standard window glazing which uses light grey safety tempered glass. This type of glass makes the door protect the occupant's privacy as someone from outside cannot be able to see the inside while the occupant can comfortably be able to see the outside from the same glass. These doors come in a variety of many colors. It is upon the TV owner to choose the door color that goes in sync with his/her RV's color. They also come with sturdy aluminum handles for that hard grip.

In most cases, the door's exteriors are coated with fiberglass to deliver that pleasant polished look. The size of the door is highly determined by the size of the RV itself as they come in different door sizes. On ordering, it is accompanied by hinges that make it easily flexible. The RV owner should by all means choose an RV Entry Door that is suitable for his/her RV's needs. It should however be a wise choice that ensures that all the doors are long lasting and also favoring him/her budget wise. All said and done, the doors should have all the attributes of a good long lasting door.

They are built in such a way that there is minimal or no mineral, scale and lime build up.

RV Handheld Shower Heads are also very easy to install and also operate. They come with very easy and straight forward instructions for everyone to understand. Everything one needs to use for the installation purposes is also included there in and so the user does not need to buy more. Their prices are also affordable as compared to normal shower heads. The fact that they last very long is proof enough that they have value for the money spent on buying them. They are also able to conserve a lot of water hence saving the user water cost bills.

Another good thing about these shower heads is that they are self pressurizing. This feature is designed to increase spray velocity so as to let the user enjoy a sensational experience even with low pressure water. This great feeling makes the owner have a clean shower anytime of the day at any place. Once the water passes through the shower head, it is instantly energized and texturized with oxygen. This speeds up the flow of the water hence giving the owner a clean rinsing shower.

RV Handheld Shower Heads have been very instrumental in giving the user a shower experience that is hard to beat. The water coming out of the shower head is energized with oxygen more than ten times the normal shower head water making it pass as a very suitable solution for all RV owners. They are also approved and licensed by the appropriate bodies so the owner can rest assured that he/she is using the right appliance for his/her bathroom. Everyone who wants to enjoy a great shower experience should start using this bathroom appliance and he/she will always be grateful for having made the right decision.

There is nothing as important as having one's privacy in the bathroom well taken care of. The bathroom is one of the most sensitive and yet frequent parts of the house that we visit on a daily basis. Just the simple imagination that one will not be adequately prevented from intruders can make many people shy away from frequenting that particular bathroom. Whether one is simply at home or at an adventure, taking a shower needs to be one person affair only and it should be regarded as such by all means. All bathrooms should have the necessary appliances and measures to enable whoever is using the bathroom have a private and yet thrilling shower experience.

For those people who love taking adventures in their RV's, having the right quality RV Shower Doors is a must. These enable them to enjoy their camping and adventure without having to worry about anything peculiar. Going by the nature of the RV's, these doors should be specifically tailored to fit and work for the specific purpose of having a good bathroom. The door should have all qualities and attributes that ensure that it is able to serve it's purpose just like a normal bathroom door at home if not better.

The most important thing that the RV owner should consider is choosing a door that will be able to fight mold and mildew in his/her RV. The door should be mold, mildew and water resistant so that it is able to contain the water and humidity in the bathroom without sending it to the other parts of the RV. The door should also be made of very durable material to ensure that it gives the RV owner value for money. The RV Shower Doors the owner decides to use on his/her RV should by all means be suitable for the purposes he/she uses the RV for.

Being an outdoor activity house, the RV should have a bathroom that can cope conditions in all types of weather. Whether it is the hot season or the cold season, the bathroom should have all the required relevant equipment and appliances like water heaters and top of the range showers. The bathroom doors should be able to withstand all the above mentioned conditions without getting affected in regard to it's quality being destroyed. The most important thing to the RV owner is that the bathroom is able to work all the time regardless of the weather condition.

When choosing RV Shower Doors, all RV owners should put a lot of emphasis on the quality of the door. The quality of the door is paramount to the bathroom performing effectively and so a lot of emphasis should be put on that area. The door should also be friendly in terms of installation. It should not be very hard to open and close as being in such a condition, it is prone to getting destroyed easily. It should be able to open and close freely without any difficulty. The door should also have a lock to ensure that once someone is inside, he/she enjoys his/her privacy to the maximum.

Some Important RV Tire Choice And Maintenance Tips

Choosing the right RV tires is very important to as it ensures that you enjoy incident free road trips and vacations, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that you are safe. Due to the infrequent use of RVs, the tires that are used on them get exposed to a greater variety of conditions unlike the other automobile tires. This is so because they are not used or driven for extended periods. Again, when they get to be used, they are often subjected to near maximum loads. This is mainly during the hot summer weather. It is therefore, important to know how to take care of these tires for maximum benefits and safety.

To start with, you should learn how to choose the perfect special tires for your RV. This simply means that you should learn to identify the right tires designated for these vehicles. The secret here is to learn how to read tire codes. Tires designated with an ST in front of a series of numbers are designed with RV trailers in mind. They have stiffer sidewalls, are more flexible during backing and when cornering, and are designed for extended, non-stop towing. If you intend to have a greater load carrying capacity, you may opt to have the LT (light truck) designated tires instead.

You should also learn to read your tires for signs of wear and age. For the ordinary vehicles that are driven daily, a normal tire tread life is five to seven years. However, an RV, which sits parked for the most part of the year, may have its treads still looking new five years on. As much as you may not feel the urge to replace them, riding on tires more than five years old greatly increases the chances of tire blowout. The natural aging, as well as the ozone wear, may cause the tire rubber to crack making it more vulnerable to bursting.

Tire pressure and proper tire inflation is an important part of ensuring long tire life. When you have properly inflated tires, you have improved towing performance and peace of mind. Always use the best quality tire pressure gauge that will give you reliable and accurate readings. You should also know the recommended tire pressure for RV trailers. Always check tire pressure before you start to move. This is the best time because the tires have not heated up leading to that temporary increase in pressure.

It is good practice to rotate tires on your RV to ensure even wear. The kind of load you have on your RV also determines the tire pressure you should have for your tires. Make sure to also have a good tire replacement tool kit, some spare tires, and the basic knowledge on how to change a wheel from your RV. When parking your RV, make sure it is as level as possible. This will help avoid tire overload. To top it up, when buying new tires for your RV, make sure to hunt for the best RV tires sale offers online or in your nearest tire shop.

An RV Cabinets Upgrade Guide

Once in a while, the need to upgrade to fresher looking and newer RV Cabinets arises. It may also be that you are new to RVs and need one with some cool cabinets therein. This should come with expert installation, taking in to consideration that these cabinets, unlike household cabinetry, need to be firm enough to withstand movement of your vehicle. Motion and vibration should be taken in to consideration. The types of hinges used should be the self closing ones, with door catchers installed, to keep your cabinet doors firmly closed throughout your travel adventures.

Being one of the main attraction in your RV, the cabinet should have the looks to impress, but at the same time, it should have the intended functionality. A medicine cabinet, for instance, should be well arranged. It should also firmly but gently, hold all the medicine and medical supplies, including the liquid ones, in place without any spills or breakages of the carrying bottles during movement. On the outside, it should add to the aesthetic value of your RV's interior.

Your cabinet, though compact, should allow good air circulation. This helps to keep the freshness within the RV as well as keeping the stored materials in good use state and order. It should also be easy to clean and easy to access in case you need something. Its design should not take up much space within your RV, to allow space for movement as well as space for other facilities needed.

The materials used for your cabinets should match the functionality. Whether its the kitchen cabinets, the bathroom cabinets or the medicine cabinets, they should be made with the appropriate materials that aid in protecting and safely storing what is intended for them. A bathroom cabinet for instance, should be relatively water resistant and easy to wipe, but at the same time attractive and nice looking.

Most cabinets for your RV are the same grade as your household cabinets. They can be bought from the same shops and dealers online and offline. The experts who do home installations can also customize these cabinets and install them in your RV. You can also purchase custom cabinets and then install them yourself using the guides provided or by simply getting some DIY instructions online.

The cost of getting the cabinet installed in the RV should be modest and affordable. A quick online search will yield a good number of companies near you that can get this done for you. Choose some of them with the best prices and go further ahead to seed them in terms of service provision and customer care, to finally identify the best one to get the job done.

All said, your RV's interior should be as comfortable as possible. Remember this is your home away from home. It's comfort should add to the fun that the RV cruise and vacationing offers. Just like in your home, all the installed accessories should also meet high safety standards for your family's sake. So, as you make that decision on the RV cabinets to use with your mobile home, make wise choices, but above all, have fun doing it.

Travel RVing With Unusual Pets

Travel RVing is fascinated with the assorted varieties of pets that RVers take along on their travels. Seventy five per cent of RV travelers take along their furry family members (well, most are furry) and wouldn't consider being without them. Of course, the vast majority have dogs or cats. But some walk to the sound of a different drum...

Animals come in all shapes and sizes, and many RVers find themselves devoted to unusual ones. They travel very happily with their chickens, ducks, rabbits, hedgehogs, pygmy goats, pot-bellied pigs, lizards, snakes, geckos, monkeys, skunks and many, many more. In short, if you can transport your pet's living habitat you are ready for the road.

Let's delve a little further into to characteristics of some unusual pets. Keep in mind that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What causes one's skin to crawl warms the heart of another.

Have you ever thought of cuddling up with a skunk? If bred correctly, a de-scented skunk can make a wonderful pet. They can be warm, funny, cute and affectionate sometimes. They can also be very demanding, stubborn, and aloof. Skunks are very curious-- you will find them rummaging through your drawers, purse, laundry hampers, bed linens and other places they consider to be intriguing. They also steal things to make their beds softer. Most skunks are good campers.

Although you may think of them as animals to be raised on a farm, ducks can make splendid pets. Face it, baby ducks are just adorable and as they grow up they are friendly, sociable, and not very likely to fly away. Although ducks are not extremely potty-trainable, duck-loving RVers find this to be a very small obstacle to overcome. And, ducks do a fantastic job of eating up all your kitchen scraps.

Becoming extremely popular, so much so it is questionable as to whether to consider them "unusual" is the pet ferret. Ferrets have to be among the cutest of all our furry friends. They are warm and soft and love to be cuddled. Ferrets can easily be litter trained in just a few days. They are extremely clean animals and clean themselves like a cat. Unlike dogs and cats who get less playful as they get older, ferrets play enthusiastically throughout their entire lives. A drawback to RVing with a ferret is that a ferret needs a large cage. Smaller travel trailers and van conversions don't lend themselves to homing a ferret. However, if you travel a lot, you will see ferrets nearly everywhere you go. Motorhomes, large travel trailers and 5th wheels are ideal for the ferret loving RVer.

Some folks would never consider sharing their home with a pig. But pot-bellied pigs are dearly loved by their humans for their intelligent, loyal, and affectionate personalities. Highly intelligent, pot-bellied pigs can be house trained, leash trained, and even taught a few tricks. But, their intelligence can make them problematic, too. While they can be funny and playful, they can be pig-headed (pun intended) and sensitive. Still, judging from what we've seen during our RV travels, more than just a handful of people travel with their pot-bellied pigs.

Buying An RV - Answers To Those Tricky Questions

Before you go hunting for your RV, you need to decide on a few aspects. You have to be sure of the size of the motor home you need, amenities you expect, the budget and the maintenance costs. If you work out your basics, you can make a good deal for yourselves.

Finding a Recreational Vehicle or RV that meets all your needs can be tricky. You will find it hard to get a vehicle that ticks all the boxes. The best is to try and find out a vehicle that satisfies most if not all of your requirements.

You first need to determine the size of the motorhome that suits you. The smallest vehicles have enough space for two, while the large models can accommodate up to ten travelers. A small family that needs an RV for weekend vacations, will do well with a 4-berth vehicle. However, a large group of travelers will need a bigger motorhome with sufficient room. Usually, families are content with the smaller motorhomes while large recreational vehicles are used by tourism industry.

As for the amenities, recreational vehicles come with myriad options. However, to get them all, you would need to burn up your pocket. A good approach will be to break down your needs to the most essential ones, and then consider what you can actually afford. When you are clear about the amenities you cannot imagine your RV without, you will find yourselves in a better spot to begin your search.

It is the budget that will decide the kind of motorhome you are going to purchase. Provided enough dollars in the account, anyone of us will like to take home a brand new vehicle. However, it is not the case with everyone and most of us have to be contend with whatever we have. Used models of recreational vehicles are available at slashed prices, that are in fact a fraction of the original price. With a used vehicle, you put less pressure on your finance. You get the same kind of comforts at a lesser price.

You also need to be sure what kind of terrain your motor will run on. If you plan to drive your vehicle on roads, any model will fit. But if you are adventurous sort of a person that demands that your RV be able to run on dicey terrain, you better get a vehicle that is built for such a terrain. However, you will need to shell out pretty good amount for it.

You have to take into account the maintenance costs as well. Factor in issues such as mileage, prices of automotive parts, parking costs, mileage, availability of service etc. If you opt for an LPG-conversion RV, your fuel costs will cut by half. If you plan to take your vehicle off road, expect your maintenance costs to go north.

If you have decided on the kind of used motorhome your want, you a medium as powerful as the Internet to find a vehicle that fits in your requirements. Meandering through the cyberspace, you can get recreational vehicles of all makes such as Damon, Beaver, Monaco, Prevost, Tuscany, Le Mirage etc. You will find Class A, Class B and Class C motorhomes for sale. You can test these models against your conditions and take out the one you deem the best. http://www.rvregistry.com/used-rv/Class_C/

Important Tips for the First Time RV Buyer

You have spent years watching RVs pass by you on back roads and major highways all over America, dreaming of the time you would find yourself behind the wheel of one of these "homes away from home." Now you are ready... at least that is what you believe.

In truth, this may be the right time for you to buy a new or used RV. Each presents you with a great value because RVs are luxury vehicles with kitchens, bedroom areas, a dining area, and a den area - almost all of the comforts of home. However, a RV can be - and often is - the second most important investment you are likely to make after your home.

RVs provide so many great benefits for families like yours. Consider...

They are remarkably affordable when compared to other forms of family travel that include air travel and stays in expensive hotels.

They provide you with lots of flexibility and convenience because you can park a RV in your driveway, then just get up, and go when you are ready to "hit the road."

They give you the ability to travel anywhere at any time - "off the beaten path" - so that you can visit, experience - and enjoy - parts of America generally not accessible to those who do not own a RV. That is special. And that's why...

It is important - critically important - to know what you are doing when you decide to buy a new or used RV so that you avoid costly mistakes.

In fact, if you are buying your first RV, here are some tips you need to follow. To begin:

Whether you intend to purchase a new or used camper, it is essential to make sure your current credit history is solid. If you have a high credit rating - over 700 - you are going to qualify for the lowest possible interest rate on your loan... and you will save money over the life of the loan - lots of it.

Prices vary for RVs. The same model camper may be cheaper at one dealer than it is at another dealer. So... shop carefully and shop around. Spend a little time doing your homework and you will get the best possible deal... and save money in the process.

RVs are vehicles, of course and require insurance. In this case, the coverage you need to buy is considered specialty insurance. If you already have an insurance agent, check with him/her first. If not, search online for the best possible deal. There are many exotic coverage options for RVs, many of which you probably do not need. Purchase only what you know you need and, once again, you will save money.

Finally, you have to decide if you are going to buy "new or used." It is an important decision because the difference in cost can be significant. If buying new, visit a respected dealer, someone you can trust.

If buying used, make sure you get information that covers the vehicle's entire past history. If the seller cannot provide that history, do not buy that RV. You will find countless others available that can provide past history. Remember: used vehicles are generally purchased "as is."

It is important to note that most dealers carry a wide assortment of used RV's as well as new, and that some of the used RVs that you can get from a dealer come with a factory warranty. If they do not, you can get an extended warranty for used RV's up to 12 years old. It is very important to add an extended warranty at the time you buy either a new or a used RV. They can be purchased from the dealer and included with your financing.

There is a new e-book currently available that has been written specifically for folks - like you - who want to have fun when they travel by RV. It is called "Putting the WOW Into Your Next RV Vacation" and it includes tips and information you can use to really enjoy your RV. Make sure to get your hands on this informational RV eBook.

The Importance of Winterizing Your RV - Before It Gets Cold

If you are anything at all like most other RV owners, you love your RV or camper. It is what you use every summer to explore America's back roads and small towns... your "ticket" to the freedom of the road. But your RV is also a machine.

As such, you need to take steps to maintain it... and preserve it. That is especially true if you live in a part of America where autumn turns to frigid winter and temperatures drop dramatically.

Cold or freezing temperatures can cause extensive damage to your RV that cost hundreds, even thousands, of dollars to repair.

You can avoid the hassle and the expense by winterizing your RV well in advance of winter's icy grip. To do so, start by adding antifreeze to your RV's engine. That will assure that the water in the engine will not freeze up and turn to ice... an important first step.

In fact, a lot of the winterizing you need to do involves eliminating water. Therefore, you can start by draining all of the water tanks in your RV. Then drain the flushing system and the water heater, making sure you eliminate all of the water held in any tanks.

Open all hot and cold-water faucets and let them run until they, too, are fully drained then shut them and leave them that way for the remainder of the winter.

Another important step you can take to effectively winterize your RV is to remove all food, even canned food items to discourage hungry animals from entering your RV in search of something to eat.

Mildew is often a problem in RVs that remain unused during the winter months. You can avoid this problem by leaving your refrigerator door slightly ajar - for the entire winter. Yes, it will eliminate any risk of mildew forming so that your refrigerator will be clean, dry and ready to use when you need it.

Another way to keep your RV's interior dry and ready for use is to leave the vents open throughout the winter allowing fresh air to circulate so that the interior is clean and fresh when the weather warms up.

Many RV owners also remove the tires from their camper and put the RV up on blocks. Others cover the tires to keep them safe from the ravages of cold winter temperatures. Both options are viable.

Of course, it also makes good sense to remove any and all corrosive materials that may have formed on the undercarriage of your camper - before winter starts. Then, add a cover that protects the entire camper from snow, sleet and other winter problems... unless you are able to store your RV in a garage.

Is there anything else you need to do to winterize your RV? You can remove all batteries and prepare to replace them with new batteries after the long winter ends. Finally, make sure to follow all of the manufacturer's winterizing instructions, some of which may already be noted here.

Do all of these things and your beloved RV will be ready to "hit the road" problem-free and "good as new" shortly after winter turns to spring and the travel bug hits you. So... take the steps now to winterize your RV and avoid costly damage later. It is well worth the effort.

Lastly, if it important to note that while doing all of these things yourself is good, for the RV owner that just wants it done at a fair price you can drop it at a qualified RV shop and most of it can be done for you. This is a great way to eliminate all the dumping as well as the disposal of the unwanted fluids. Whether you choose to winterize your RV yourself or have an RV shop do it for you, make sure that you take the necessary action to have your RV winterized before it is too late.

Top 5 Essential Motorhome Accessories

It's easy to see why an increasing number of people in the UK are opting to purchase a motorhome or caravan for their family holidays. Not only do you get to enjoy the ease of travelling at your own pace, but also have the opportunity to explore the great outdoors in comfortable accommodation. Whether you've already purchased your motorhome and need advice regarding necessary essentials or are considering buying a motorhome, these useful tips will help guide you in the buying process.

1. To shield your family from the summer sun and have a comfortable outdoor area in which to eat and relax, awnings are used. These come in two forms - a basic, canopy like structure to provide some shade, or a tent offering more privacy. When choosing your motorhome awning, remember to take material and durability into account and opt for a product that suits you and your family's needs.

2. In order to keep the kids happy and entertain the adults in the evening, don't forget to pack a selection of games and outdoor activities. Here are some suggestions of what to bring:
• Frisbee
• Badminton set
• Board games
• Fishing rod
• Deck of cards

Remember to avoid anything with small pieces, as they might get lost and do your research on the area where you're going so that you're well equipped with activities that complement the natural setting.

3. Proper sanitation and hygiene is a must for your caravan. Many caravans have cassette toilets, which need chemicals to break down the waste and keep your caravan clean and germ-free. There is a choice of three additives, depending on whether you would prefer a pleasant fragrance, ease of use, or chemicals that are environmentally friendly.

4. As with normal vehicles, motorhomes are subject to wear and tear during long trips. It's advisable to keep a toolkit (even one with the bare minimum) handy, so that you have the wherewithal to tighten nuts and bolts if need be. A few essential tools to keep on your motorhome are:
• Flat and crosshead screwdrivers
• Spanner
• Pliers
• Torch (+ batteries)
• Fuses
• Sharp knife

Bonus tip: In terms of safety, it's also essential to have a first aid kit and fire extinguisher on board!

5. Last but certainly not least, don't forget to insure your motorhome before taking it out on the road. Think of your motorhome as any other vehicle that requires proper insurance in order to be legally and safely driven. Not only is motorhome insurance required, but it also covers you in case of accidents like fire or theft. Upon purchasing your motorhome insurance, make sure that you're getting the most comprehensive and well-tailored policy for what you need.

It's also important to get caravan insurance or motorhome insurance quote before purchasing a motorhome or caravan.

Five Important Tire Care And Safety Tips

Almost everyone has heard the phrase, "where the rubber meets the road." Tires are the thing that connects vehicles to the road. Not only do tire problems impact a car's ride, handling, and comfort, but they affect the safety of everyone in the car.

Here are five important tire care and safety tips to help keep drivers and passengers safe. They are remembered easily with the acronym "PART" -- pressure, alignment, rotation, and tread.

Pressure

Check tire pressure on a regular basis. All tires lose air over time. Use a simple pencil gauge or a digital gauge to measure air pressure -- at twice a month, and always before long road trips.

Inflation pressure data is usually found in the owner's manual, or on a sticker inside the driver's door. If the car is hot, allow it to sit for a while before checking the air pressure. Cold tire pressure checks give the most accurate readings.

Under-inflation is a tire's worst enemy. It causes irregular wear and unwarranted tire stress, which can lead to loss of control and serious accidents. Address under-inflation as soon as possible by airing the tires to the proper pressure.

Alignment

Sometimes cars pull to one side of the road or shake while driving. Hitting a curb, pothole, or other object can throw the front end out of alignment, damaging the tires.

Even if there is no pull or shake, uneven tread wear can indicate alignment issues. Have a dealer check the alignment from time to time, to ensure better handling and prevent uneven tread wear.

Rotation

Regular rotation extends tire life and encourages even, uniform wear. Most service technicians recommend tire rotation every 5,000 to 7,000 miles. The owner's manual has specific recommendations for a particular make and model.

Sometimes a car develops a shimmy, felt as a steering wheel vibration. This occurs when a tire has lost a balance weight. Take the car to a dealer. Re-balancing the tire is relatively easy and inexpensive.

Tread

Tire inspections should include checking for tread depth as well as wear. Hard wear and weak tread reduce a tire's ability to grip the road during adverse weather conditions.

While visually inspecting tires, look for areas that are high, low, or curiously smooth. Check for obvious damage, as well. Use a penny to check the tread. If all of President Lincoln's head is visible, it is time to buy new tires.

Purchases

When purchasing tires, it is best to replace the entire set at one time. At the very least, buy two -- an axle pair for either the front or rear wheels. Regular rotation will ensure that all tires experience the same rate of wear.

Always buy the appropriate tires for the job, such as winter snow tires or maximum performance summer tires. Depending on location, most drivers can get away with general-purpose, all-season tires.

When buying and inspecting tires, do not overlook the spare. Discovering a flat spare tire when you need it the most is a disappointing experience, to say the least. Drivers who carry air compressors and tire flat repair kits should check them periodically, too.

New tires can be expensive, but tire maintenance is relatively cheap. And it is vitally important to driver and passenger safety. Other safety features, like stability and traction control or antilock brakes, will not work properly without a good set of tires. Taking care of a car's tires will help them take care of the occupants.

Auto Glass Repair: Why You Should Fix Your Automotive Glass Now!

Small chips and cracks in your automotive glass may seem like a minor issue that you can easily ignore, but that's not the best idea! There are several reasons you should get your windshield or car window repaired right away. The biggest is simply to save yourself some major time and hassle.

Did you know that windshield crack repair is possible, in most cases, for breaks up to six inches long? This is both the good news and the bad news, however. Small chips and cracks in window and windshield glass can be fixed, but larger fissures require that you replace the entire piece of glass. With auto glass repair being so much more affordable than complete window or windshield replacement, it just makes sense to get your vehicle fixed--while you still can. That's because the chip or small crack isn't guaranteed to stay minute. A whole host of conditions (many of them common occurrences while you're on the road) can all make the damage spread. These can include temperature shifts that cause the windshield glass to expand or contract, potholes or speed bumps that jostle the vehicle, and even contact with your windshield wipers. And in many cases, once the damage has spread, you're stuck shelling out for a whole auto glass replacement rather than an affordable repair.

The repair process itself is extremely straightforward, and many auto glass shops provide mobile services so they can come directly to your location. After the damaged area has been cleaned to ensure maximum adhesion, the windshield crack repair pro will apply a specialized epoxy resin that will completely fill the space of the chip/break. Once fully cured, this fix will provide twofold benefits: for starters, the auto glass repair is practically invisible, so your window or windshield will look just like new; secondly, because the resin reinforces the once-damaged area, your car window glass will be protected from spreading cracks.

Now, if you're thinking that windshield repairs sound so easy you can handle them yourself, you should reconsider. While repairing chipped or cracked car window glass looks easy when a professional tackles the job, it's a whole other story when it comes to do-it-yourself work. Automotive glass repair requires specialized resins and the appropriate tools for applying and curing this material. If it's not done right, your DIY windshield chip repair can result in a real mess on your glass, but the real danger is in not reinforcing the chip/crack adequately. When amateur repairs go awry, they fail to stabilize the original damage, and after a sudden cold snap or high speed bump, the flaw could turn into a spreading crack--one that requires complete windshield replacement.

Windshield and car window repairs cost, on average, between $50 and $100. Windshield replacement usually starts around $300. So instead of putting off your car window repair or trying to do it yourself, if you've noticed damage to your window or windshield glass, contact your local professional for immediate service. You'll save yourself time, hassle, and money in the end, so don't hesitate to seek automotive glass services to repair that chip or crack today!
