How to Get Better Fuel Economy Without Spending a Dime

Fuel prices have been relatively high for quite some time. This makes fuel economy an important topic because the less you spend on gas the more you can spend on other things. Many people try to boost their gas mileage by buying one of those "fuel mileage booster" products. You know, the ones they sell online and even in Walmart that advertise that they can boost your gas mileage just by pouring it into your gas tank. These products are all gimmicks. None of them work. Instead of wasting your money on buying things that don't work to boost your fuel mileage why not try boosting it by driving different? This is by far the easiest and most effective way to get better gas mileage without spending a dime!

You first need to be in the right mindset. This means that you need to be constantly thinking about how much fuel you are using at all times while you are driving. It also means that you need to drive slower. If you are always in a hurry you will not benefit from any of the tips in this article. Once you get in the habit of thinking about how much fuel you are using this is not as important. At first you just need to build this habit.

Avoid doing things that use fuel without actually going anywhere. Things like idling at a drive thru or sitting at a traffic light. Most of the time it does not take that much longer to go into a fast food restaurant rather than sitting in a long line of cars. If there are multiple ways to get to where you are going you could choose the route with fewer stop lights. Just be careful to not drive too much out of your way as this could increase the amount of fuel you use. Think about ways you can reduce the time that you have your car running when it is not moving. This is a huge waste of gas because you are getting 0 miles per gallon!

It seems like everyone wants to be the first one off of the line when the light turns green. The funny thing is that these are the same people who have to slam on their brakes at the next red light. Every time you have to brake you are losing all the momentum that you just used fuel to gain. When the light turns green try to get up to speed evenly and don't speed up quickly then brake, this is wasted energy.

Keep your eye way up ahead. If you see the light that is one block in front of you turn red you know that there is no point to accelerating because you will just have to brake when you get to the lineup of cars. Instead just take your foot off of the gas and let your car coast to the stopped cars ahead. This does not work all of the time for various reasons, but do it when you can.

Your car loses more and more efficiency the further over 60 miles per hour that you travel. This means that you should try to travel closer to the speed limit. Not only will this be more fuel efficient, but also it will mean a less stressful trip because you won't have to be watching your back for police all the time.

These are some of the easiest ways to get better gas mileage without spending any money. There are many other ways that you can drive differently, but these will get you started. Once you start to think more about how much money you are saving by driving more efficiently you will have started to change your habits and that is what will really help you get better gas mileage for free! http://www.myautorepairadvice.com
